English-to-Simplified Chinese and Taiwan Traditional Chinese translation of instructions for use (IFU) for an Abbott combined respiratory rapid diagnostic product, covering test information, procedures, result interpretation and illustrated instructions.
Project Background
The project involved translation of the English instructions for use (IFU) for the Abbott combined respiratory rapid diagnostic product into Simplified Chinese and Taiwan Traditional Chinese. Each version addresses the terminology and language conventions of its intended readers while preserving consistent technical meaning. The English source provided includes the test principle, intended use, storage requirements, warnings, procedures, result interpretation and a glossary of symbols, combining explanatory text with illustrated instructions.
Scope of Work
- IFU text and technical terminology
- Procedures and illustrated instructions
- Result interpretation, warnings and limitations
Project Challenges
The source combines dense technical information with step-by-step illustrations. Translation requires consistent component names, sequences, numbers, units and conditions across text and graphics, while preserving the qualifications in result interpretation and warnings.
Our Approach
- Read terminology in context: Relate the test principle, materials and procedures to establish consistent wording for components and technical concepts.
- Align text and illustrations: Cross-check procedural text against accompanying illustrations, paying attention to sequence, numbering, figures and units.
- Preserve warnings and qualifications: Maintain conditional meaning in result interpretation, limitations and warnings. Record source questions for confirmation rather than adding medical conclusions.
Deliverables
- Simplified Chinese and Taiwan Traditional Chinese IFUs
